Makati, Philippines: Recently lauded as an “Innovator” by the National Center for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Electronic Network Cash Tellers, Inc. (ENCASH) will be implementing new SWITCHWARE® and Thales EMV and ATM remote key loading functions for their ATM network.
ENCASH is the first independent ATM deployer in the Philippines and provides ATM services to rural banks, cooperatives and MFIs. Its products enable financial institutions to provide commercial bank-grade ATM services in more than 55 provinces across the country. Previously underbanked cardholders residing in rural areas benefit greatly from this service because ENCASH provides access to their finances via the ATM.
SWITCHWARE’s EMV support functions will provide ENCASH with an “end-to-end” EMV solution for both ATM acquiring and smart card issuance, enabling conformance to current and future EMV standards for payment processing of smart card transactions as well as pending liability shifts. The base SWITCHWARE EMV package will support EMV acquiring for all ENCASH NCR ANDC-driven ATMs plus a license for EMV transactions to be routed through the national MegaLink EFT network (when supported). Two new Thales payShield 9000 HSMs will be used for EMV and RKL/RSA cryptographic functions.
The Remote Key Loading (RKL) functions with RSA authentication incorporated into SWITCHWARE include support for NCR’s Signature Based Protocol and Diebold’s Certificate Based Protocol. This integrated solution utilizes existing interfaces to the ATM and Hardware Security Module (HSM) to perform authentication between the ATM and SWITCHWARE — with no additional hardware components required. Keys can be periodically and randomly regenerated via commands with the HSM, encrypted with the RSA key and then downloaded to the ATM. Eliminating the need for a technician to be present at the ATM to change keys, RKL allows staff resources to be allocated to more productive tasks while simultaneously providing FIs and cardholders with increased transactional security.
